More on Gibson

I just read this article at Haaretz, calling for Gibson’s head.

According to the article, ‘Abraham H. Foxman, the group’s [ADL's] national director, said, "It appears that the combination of liquor and arrest has revealed his true character.’ I agree. Alcohol (especially with a BAC of .12) doesn’t turn one into a hallucinating mad-man spouting insane lies. Rather, a BAC of .12 leads to poor judgement and removes one’s inhibitions to say/do what you really want to say/do. Alcohol is nature’s truth-serum. I bet most of you can recall a time (or two), when under the influence, you said something stupid… stupid not because it was a lie… but because it was too true, yet inappropriate.

On the other hand, there’s this Breitbart report which states, ‘This is not the first time Gibson has faced accusations of anti-Semitism. Gibson produced, directed and financed "The Passion of the Christ," which some Jewish leaders said cast Jews as the killers of Jesus.’

I think people (Jews and Gentiles alike) need to come to grips with the fact that Gibson was doing his best to reproduce on film the literal text of the New Testament. The Bible ‘casts Jews as the killers of Jesus’. Gibson didn’t make that up. As quoted here (ABC News), "You know, critics who have a problem with me don’t really have a problem with me and this film, they have a problem with the four Gospels."

The role of Christians is to hate the Jews for who they are and what they stand for, but to also respect the Jews for their utility… their role in bringing about the end of the world.

Mel Gibson’s Anti-Jewish Tirade

I normally don’t post about goings-on in Hollywood unless the news relates to something bigger. In this case, it isn’t really the news, rather the interesting lack of.

I first ran across the story yesterday… about Mel Gibson’s DUI arrest and subsequent tantrum that evolved into a Jew-bashing tirade. I immediately thought back to how hard Mel and his fans fought criticisms from the Jewish Community about the anti-Semitic message in his film The Passion of the Christ and his father’s outspoken denial of the Holocaust.

Here are some links:

Mel Gibson Apologizes for Tirade After Arrest

EXCLUSIVE OFFICIAL CONFIRMATION! NO COVER-UP

Did Gibson Get a Break After Arrest?

Gibson’s Anti-Semitic Tirade — Alleged Cover Up

But MSNBC released Mel Gibson apologizes after DUI arrest, making no mention of the racial slurs.

In Mel Gibson Apologizes for DUI, ‘Despicable’ Statements, FoxNews doesn’t say what those ‘dispicable’ statements were.

CNN gives it a brief mention in Gibson apologizes for behavior, but if you’re just skimming, you would miss it.

I just think it’s interesting that some media outlets are reporting the details, presenting Gibson as the monster he is, while others are not. Is this a case of Hollywood protecting their own?

I also read that Gibson has a new movie coming out in December. It sucks, because the movie is probably going to be pretty good. I just don’t think I can support the guy.

Birthdays and Mad Scientists

First, don’t get me started on birthdays. I have yet to figure out why there is a reason to celebrate such a dismal thing. I mean… it’s like "boom" you shoot out of your mother’s womb, you have a little fun until you’re about 9… then it starts getting confusing. At about 12 you finally realize things are a bit more complex. At around 16 your on the edge of killing yourself. At 70 (if you lived that long) you wonder why you didn’t just do it when you were 16. My estimate is that less than 2% of the population who make it to 70 are glad they were ever born.

Birthdays are weird to celebrate. On your birthday, I suppose we should really be celebrating/honoring the effort your mother went through. I mean, you didn’t extend any conscious effort to be born that you can remember. And you certainly weren’t involved in your cenception. Nor did you have any conscious involvement in determining which of your stem-cells would become brains, heart, legs, liver or your appendix.

On the other hand, today is Nancy’s birthday, and (as she pointed out to me) is also "Talk Like a Mad Scientist Day".

So, in honor of Nancy and "Talk Like a Mad Science Day"… I offer some quotes to use next year…

"It’s alive." - Dr. Frankenstein

"Pinky: Gee, Brain, what are we going to do tonight?
Brain: The same thing we do every night, Pinky. Try to take over the world!"
- Pinky and the Brain

"Behold!" - Dr. Weird (Aqua Teen Hunger Force)

"There was an old lady who swallowed a fly, perhaps she’ll die." - Seth Brundle, from The Fly.

"Why must I be surrounded by frickin’ idiots?" - Dr. Evil, from Austin Powers, International Man of Mystery.

New pharmaceutical pictograms from Japan

Japan just released a new set of pictograms to use on medicinal packaging.

I think I’ve figured most of them out… but a few have me puzzled.

Top row, 4th from the left: What pill do you stick between your boobs?

4th row, 2nd picture: I don’t know where that pill is going, but I can’t identify a similar location on my anatomy.

5th row, 7th picture: Don’t take this with pizza?

5th row, 8th picture: Don’t take this with Thin Mints?

6th row, 5th picture: This is the good shit, man. Give it away at first, then wait til they come back for more.

Correcting mistakes…

First, reminscent of the "Mohammed cartoons", some people have an issue with this cartoon depiction of Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert. The article insinuates that this cartoon is anti-Semitic. Is it? It sucks that you can’t be critical of Olmert or Israel without immediately being declared ‘anti-Jew’. I don’t immediately associate Israel and Judaism as one and the same. Despite people throwing around the word "democracy", governments are distinctly separate from the people they govern. Anyway…

Today I ran across this Kurt Anderson article, Truly Inconvenient Truths. "Israel is a good and miraculous nation that deserves the support of civilized people, but the great unfortunate fact about its creation–being carved by the U.N. out of Arab land in 1947–cannot be ignored or wished away." He then quotes Richard Cohen and says, "’Israel itself is a mistake… an honest mistake, a well-intentioned mistake, a mistake for which no one is culpable [but which] has produced a century of warfare and terrorism of the sort we are seeing now.’"

And I guess that’s been at the root of my thinking: Israel’s mere existence is primarily the reason for the instability of the Middle East today. Whether they ever provoked anyone intentionally or not, the fact that Israel is what it is where it is… well… you’re seeing the results.

That being the case, the answer to the situation (a few seemingly rhetorical questions) that first comes to mind is "Why don’t the Israelis just move? Why don’t they go somewhere else and get out of there? Why do they stay where they’re surrounded by nations of people who want to eliminate them?" I admit that up until today I’ve been focusing on the negatives. I’ve been focusing on the current skirmish and the disproportionate Israeli response to kidnappings leading to the murder of hundreds of innocents in Lebanon and Gaza. I still think it’s sad, but maybe Condi Rice is on to something. This ‘war’ that started two weeks ago is really the culmination of something bigger… something that’s been growing for years… and if something isn’t done to nip it and change its course, it won’t stop.

Since Israel’s inception, the region has been at war. If they’re not physically fighting and killing one another, they’re verbally threatening it. And from what I’ve read (and why I’ve not being very critical of Hizballah), these kidnappings/prisoner-swaps have been going on for some time, and successfully. Hizballah had every reason to believe it would work again as it had so well in the past, and why you read that they are so shocked at Israel’s response.

What needs to happen is a paradigm shift on all sides. Israel needs to realize and concede (perhaps even admit publically) that the nation is of illegitimate origins and that they as a People have no stronger (and probably weaker) claims/ties to the land they’re on than the Palestinians they displaced. In fact, if not for Hitler, would there be an Israel today?

On the other side, though, the Moslem nations need to realize that Israel is here to stay, whether they like it or not. At this point, there is no going back. No one is going to erase them off the map, and threatening to do so just a silly notion.

And on the outside, those of us NOT directly part of the conflict, we need to stop picking sides and hold all of the Middle Eastern nations equally accountable for changing their culture and sustaining durable peace. At this point, Israel isn’t to blame, nor are the Islamic nations, nor are the militant groups (who, by the way, are also humanitarian groups building hospitals and schools… groups like Hamas and Hizballah). I think it’s simply that all nations have become accustomed to a singular way of dealing with each other, one that involves constant violence or threats of violence. That’s where the Region needs leadership and guidance. They need to see there is another, better way.

So, as for my recommended solution/approach… as I said, stop picking sides. Treat the entire Region (Israel, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, Iran, Lebanon, Syria, the UAE, Kuwait… and Iraq) as a whole. Don’t destroy anyone’s sovereignty, but unnoffically consider them part of the new "Middle Eastern Union". When the U.N. issues a resolution, even if it’s the result of actions of one country, hold the entire Region responsible and implement sanctions equally to them all. Make Israel responsible for Lebanon’s inability to control Hizballah. Israel should be helping… and NOT unilaterally. Make Iran responsible when Israel commits human rights violations. Make all in the Region responsible if Iran starts to use their peaceful nuclear power technologies to build WMD’s. Force them to work together, else they all suffer the same consequences.

Leaving the country

When someone disagrees with the imperialist foreign policy of the U.S. government, a lot of die-hard "patriots" reply with, "Well, if you don’t like it, why don’t you just leave!" If only it were that easy.

My first thought was, "If I left, where would I go. Germany? France? Switzerland?"

But then when I started to think a bit more about it and did some research, the logistics, etc… well, "just leaving" isn’t as easy as I’d hoped.

I really didn’t search long, but my initial impression is that no other country wants to take in an unemployed American. You can’t "just leave" and go wherever you want.

A joke…

A little boy goes to his dad and asks, "What is Politics?"

Dad says, "Well son, let me try to explain it this way:

I am the head of the family, so call me The President. Your mother is the administrator of the money, so we call her the Government. We are here to take care of your needs, so we will call you the People. The nanny, we will consider her the Working Class. And your baby brother, we will call him the Future.

Now think about that and see if it makes sense."

So the little boy goes off to bed thinking about what Dad has said. Later that night,! he hears his baby brother crying, so he gets up to check on him. He finds that the baby has severely soiled his diaper with ….

So the little boy goes to his parent’s room and finds his mother asleep. Not wanting to wake her, he goes to the nanny’s room. Finding the door locked, he peeks in the keyhole and see s his father in bed with the nanny.

He gives up and goes back to bed.

The next morning, the little boy say’s to his father, "Dad, I think I understand the concept of politics now."

The father says, "Good, son, tell me in your own words what you think politics is all about."

The little boy replies, "The President is screwing the Working Class while the Government is sound asleep. The People are being ignored and the Future is in deep shit."

For cryin’ out loud

I never read the New York Times much, and today I found out why.

Surge of Violence in Mideast Forces Some Young Jews to Rethink a Rite of Passage

Online, Tears and Empathy for Israelis

Never let it be said the NYT didn’t report on the plight of the "victims".

I don’t watch TV news because I used to and am pretty sure not much has changed. The MSM online isn’t much different. Hopefully Americans can see right through it. I fear they don’t.

I mean… read just about any article on the conflict at CNN, MSNBC or FoxNews and you’ll find an already-tired apples-to-oranges comparison of the damage Israel is inflicting upon Lebanon, and the damage Hizballah is inflicting upon Israel. They make it sound like this is a tough battle between two well-equipped, well-funded organized military powers. The truth is that you’ve got Israel on one side with advanced guided missiles, depleted uranium, F-16’s and F-18’s (all compliments of U.S. taxpayers… show me some love, Israel. You’re welcome.) and thousands of troops leveling Lebanon versus a couple hundred revolutionaries forced to use guerrilla tactics and are lucky to get a couple dozen Kassam rockets in the air and going the right direction.

This is less a "war" and more a "slaughter".

By my count, the casuality score looks like this:

Israel -
Soldiers: 19 killed in battle
Civilians: 17 killed by Hizballah rockets

Lebanon -
Soldiers: 1 or 2, but I can’t find the article (Note that Lebanese soldiers aren’t even fighting)
Civilians: 375

Hizballah - 8

The fact is the Zionist regime in Israel is a racist regime. While they value human life, they don’t see Arabs as human. From the Israeli perspective, killing a few innocent Arab Moslems is the same as you spraying insecticide to kill the bugs in your lawn or setting a trap to kill a rodent.

Israel, backed by the U.S., is the self-proclaimed "Pest Control Service" of the Middle East. Too bad Israeli’s can’t see that it is they who are the foreign invaders. They are the pests. They are the virus. They are the instigators and perpetuators of violence.

I think that if it were not for Israel and their Zionist/racist fervor, there would be peace in the Middle East.

Info on Hit & Run in Indianapolis on Thurs, 7/20

I’m posting this on behalf of a friend, one of my camping buddies. Her husband was killed in a hit-and-run accident on his motorcycle Thursday night, July 20. I’ve pasted the family’s message. If you have any information, please contact me, the number in the message, or the police.

Also, especially if you have a website or blog frequented by people in Indianapolis or the surrounding areas, please copy and repost this. Thanks.

Dear hit & run driver:

You know who you are. You were there at 96th & Meridian on Thursday 7/20/06. Your car is dark in color, a small sporty thing with a spoiler on the back that you thought was very cool. Now it looks awful on the right front end after the damage sustained when you hit our friend, father, husband, brother. If you had stopped and remained at the scene - it would have been an accident, something that could have eventually been worked through even if you were under the influence. Now, your car that you loved and thought was so cool is a MURDER weapon and you, as the driver, well your soul is stained black now. Its blackness will bleed through your eyes and your skin until the day you own up to your part in this horrible tragedy.

If you had stopped, your life would have been so much easier. But you had to take the coward’s way out and now look what has happened. What makes it worse for you is that the man was a police officer, so to the investigators this is a cop killing. It is a guaranteed certainty that you will suffer the worst possible treatment if they’re the ones that have to find you. Do you really want to destroy your own family in addition to the one that’s already been put through this? You still have time to take matters into your own hands, make things easier than they could be and TURN YOURSELF IN before they have to take you down. You still have a chance to clean your soul.

Dear friend, neighbor, or associate of the Hit & Run driver:

If you’re reading this and know the person, know the car, do your friend a favor and make the call that you know is the RIGHT thing to do. 317-571-2500

Sincerely,
Friends & Family of Ron Obsitnick 1964-2006

They never cease to amaze

I caught this story about Condi Rice and the Israel/Lebanon thing. Referring to international calls for a cease-fire, Condi said, "Such a step would allow terrorists to launch attacks at the time and terms of their choosing…" Then there’s this MSNBC article that claims 700,000 Lebanese civilians have been displaced and 372 killed. I think ol’ Condi misunderstands the concept of a "cease-fire". The terrorists (the IDF) have invaded Lebanon and are already attacking on their own terms. A cease-fire would stop this and prompt peaceful negotiations.

Doesn’t matter either way, because Israel "says that it will not halt its offensive until Lebanon implements UN resolution 1559 and disarms Hezbollah". Israel wants to bring up UN Resolutions? How many UN Resolutions have been filed against Israel? How many are they still not in compliance with?

They would have received one more if the U.S. had not vetoed an otherwise unanimous U.N. Resolution condemning Israel’s military action in Gaza.

But of course now Israel submits a resolution of their own.
