A master and his student were alone in the woods, sitting face to face, eyes closed, meditating under the close observation of no one, save the insects, flowers and the trees. The surrounding forest echoed with nothing more than the chirping of crickets, the subtle chime of the cicada, and the wind brushing across the leaves and grass.
Breaking the silence, the student opened his eyes and asked his master, "Master, sir, how does one explain the success of the human race, given their compulsion for self and mutual-destruction?"

So… today was my birthday. Today I’m 32. What a dumb age to be.
It’s weird. I always have moments of reflection on my birthday. Today I went to lunch with David and Michelle. I don’t remember what we were talking about when I interrupted saying something like, "Ya know… 32 years ago, my mom was a 19 year-old little girl giving birth to me."
I know several 19 year-old girls and many a few years older than that, that I consider "little girls". It’s weird to think of my mom as a little girl.

For those of you not as well informed as myself, I shall enlighten you. Today, Sept 19th, was National Talk Like a Pirate Day. For those of you who didn’t once today utter "Shiver me timbers," nor "Ahoy, Matey" nor even a simple "Arrrggg"… well, be you damned to Hell. (PS. If you’re not already, you should be reading this outloud, but to yourself. Else you’ll end up like ‘im).
For the rest of us, remember that this is Holy Week and Eris, the Goddess of Discord, counts on us to exercise our free will. This includes the mandate that this Friday, each will consume of bunless hotdogs in demonstration of our utter disrespect for Catholocism, Judaism and Islam all at once… or not… whatever you want to do… it’s cool with us.
At a press conference this weekend a reporter asked President George W. Bush, "Do you have an opinion on Roe V. Wade"?
Dubya’s response was "No, not really. I don’t care how those Negroes get out of New Olreans."
Ok, the poll is closed, and no one wins.
Yesterday morning, I was back at it. Over the past several weeks, I’ve spent hours upon hours hitting Thesaurus.com and sites like Nameboy trying to come up with the perfect business and domain name for my consultancy.
Those who know me know my name is (phonetically, anyway) a rather undescriptive adjective, and therefore has no place in the name of a company. I decided not to use it unless I had to. I wanted something catchy, yet arbitrary. I wanted something that conjured an image, yet of nothing specific. I wanted something easy to remember and easy to spell.
I finally decided to take a break, turned off CNN and turned on the stereo.

The Master sat silently, with his newest disciple seated in front of him. Both were meditating upon the essence of Chaos when finally the naive student broke the silence.
"Master, what is the essence of Chaos?" he asked.
The master withdrew a banana from his knapsack, peeled it about half-way, took a bite, then waved the banana in the face of the student.

I dreamed that I was walking down the beach with the Goddess. And I looked back and saw footprints in the sand. But sometimes there were two pairs of footprints and sometimes there was only one. And the times there was only one set of footprints, those were my times of greatest trouble. So I asked the Goddess,
"Why in my greatest need did you abandon me?"
She replied, "I never left you. Those were the times we both hopped on one foot."
When I look back, I feel like I haven’t been very productive… but I guess that’s the point. I did mow the lawn and trimmed the hedges and even cut some branches off this tree that was blocking the path to front porch. Then I did some cleaning inside. Mostly, though, I watched the news on TV, keeping up with every detail of the rescue and recovery operations in the Gulf Coast.
I also started working on the new website. you can see what I have so far at Aion Solutions. I still need to decide on a new domain name, but I’ve added some other ideas I have to the "Poll".
I just happened across this July 18 U.S. News article about what would happen if a Category 3 (or worse) hurricane hit New Orleans. Kinda’ spooky.
As September is National Preparedness Month, you should check out Ready.gov or the American Red Cross, investigate what disasters your area is prone to, and put together your family’s emergency plan.
So… yesterday thousands mourned/celebrated/recognized the anniversary of the death of a woman who was NOT chosen as ‘The Prettiest One’ at what has become known as "The Great Snub". If history has proven one single thing…. one single Truth (with a captial "T")… it is that ‘everyone dies eventually’.
Aaron Brown, on CNN, just said, "the bodies of the dead are literally piling up," referring to the current state of affairs in New Orleans, LA. Among other things, I swear I heard him say, "Fnord".
