The PM Triangle

I sat through a short presentation/training session today on Project Management. The instructor showed the "PM Triangle". This triangle begins as an equilateral triangle, with each side representing "Quality", "Time" and "Resources". The idea is that each one affects the other.

I think the guy has it wrong. PM is not, in fact, represented by a triangle, but by a square. There are 4 sides.

Domain Name Poll

I have been thinking a lot lately about doing some consulting on the side, or at least having a separate internet presence than THIS site/domain for my professional/volunteer work. (While I’m not exactly anonymous, I don’t necessarily want to draw people in my professional ‘network’ here.)

Given that my consulting/volunteer work centers around Disaster Recovery, Business Continuity Planning and Emergency Operations Management, I’ve come up with a few ideas, listed in the Poll on the right.

I would very much appreciate your feedback, either as a vote for one I’ve come up with or a comment with a new suggestion. I’ll add any suggestions I like to the poll so others can vote on that too.

Goodbye’s: Part II

So they came. They’re good people with a lot of experience with dogs, and had been looking for a White German Shepherd Dog just like him, so I felt good about letting Soren go with them.

Goodbye’s

The more I think about it, the more I know it’s the right thing to do, both for him and for me. With my schedule and priorities, I know I can’t be the kind of ‘dad’ to Soren that he needs. I don’t have time to train him and challenge him intellectually, and I’m not home enough for him to get the kind of exercise he needs.

I thought he and Berkeley would make good companions, but that didn’t work out either. Berk is just annoyed with him and has no desire to play nor really share his space.

Adoptive parents

I just got a phone call. I didn’t answer, as I didn’t recognize the number. He left a message.

The caller was a guy interested in adopting Soren.

It’s sad, and I hate to do it, but hopefully he can give Soren a better home than I can.

:-(

I’ll call him back tonight.

What’s up with me

Some people, especially Mom, are probably wondering what’s going on, so I thought I’d post a quick update.

- I’ve spent a lot of time lately on getting the materials together to submit in application to become a CBCP (Certified Business Continuity Professional) from the Disaster Recovery Institute, now that I have some experience under my belt.

- I attended my first class at the American Red Cross, where after a bit more training, I hope to volunteer in their Disaster Services division, providing Crisis Management and IT Operations support.

- I had a "second date" last night with a really amazing woman, but…
