How to start your day with a positive attitude:

1. Create a "new folder" on your Desktop.
2. Name it "George W. Bush".
3. Delete it.
4. Empty the Recycle Bin.
5. Your computer will ask you: "Do you really want to delete "George W. Bush"?
Calmly answer, "Yes", and press the mouse button firmly…

And/or: "We’re not talking retarded people here"

A Zen Story

A student walked into the nearest pub, just a few blocks down from the monestary. There, by happenstance, he encountered his Master, sitting quietly alone at the bar enjoying a cold-one.

The clever student, hoping to take advantage of this casual encounter, took the stool next to his Master and bid him greetings, then ordered himself a beer.

Once served, he turned and said "Master, now that we are alone, can you share with me the secrets to enlightenment?"

What the ‘Bleep’ Do I Know?

Yesterday, a friend loaned me the movie What the Bleep Do We Know!? on DVD. I watched the first 10 min in the car, but found it hard to concentrate. So I waited til I got home, then restarted and watched it in its entirety.

I wrote once before on Quantum Theory, but admit that I am no physicist and have a very rudimentary understanding, if any understanding at all.

I was most bothered by how the producers made the jump, attributing how scientists explain what they observe in experiments at the sub-atomic level to the larger world we live in every day. So, tonight, I Googled it. Doing so led me, among other places, here.

What I found confirms what I thought initially. Many New Age’ers give accolades, while most scientists, including one featured in the film, claim it’s a bunch of bunk, has little to nothing to do with any valid scientific research in the field of Quantum Mechanics, and applies its principles in a manner contradictory to the science to promote a commercial endeavor know as the Ramtha School of Enlightenment (and here).

I feel un-enlightened, and will be sticking to Discordia.

Terrorists in our country

The Bush Administration is rebranding the "War on Terror". Instead, they now prefer to call it the "struggle against violent extremism".

After Pat Robertson, speaking for millions of American Evangelical Christians, called for the assassination of Hugo Chavez on the Christian Broadcasting Network’s ‘The 700 Club’, the Vice-President of Venezuela reiterated the Bush Administration’s sentiments on ‘violent extremism’ as justification for war, racial profiling, and is a cause worth 2000 U.S. soldiers’ lives, saying that Robertson’s comments, "reveal that religious fundamentalism is one of the great problems facing humanity in these times."

When looking for terrorists or instigators of terrorism, one doesn’t always have to look all the way to the Middle East.

Discordia

"The Hell Law says that Hell is reserved exclusively for them that believe in
it. Further, the lowest Rung in Hell is reserved for them that believe in
it on the supposition that they’ll go there if they don’t."

Current Iraqi Parliament Legit?

This Aug 16 Guardian article describes what happened last week, when the elected Iraqi National Assembly failed to meet the Aug 15 deadline to complete the draft of the permanent Iraqi constitution. With less than an hour remaining, the members voted by show of hands to extend the deadline to Aug 22.

However, per the Transitional Administrative Law (TAL) drafted by the U.S.-led Occupation (aka, Coalition) Forces, the current Iraqi National Assembly now exists illegally.

While no one is giving that fact much attention right now, I will bet that in the coming year (perhaps months) it will come back to haunt us.

This just in…

The ‘Theory of Gravity’ is exactly that… a "theory". It’s not a fact. Secular proponents who argue for this theory alone to be taught in our public schools without mention of alternatives are simply pushing their secular, atheist beliefs onto our unwitting children.

Evangelical Scientists Refute Gravity with New ‘Intelligent Falling’ Theory

Finally someone is taking a stand on this important issue.

BTK Killer Sentenced

Rader, referring to the last two murders near the Park City home where he lived, told police: “This is not really good serial killer business, this is right at my back door. I started getting lazy, the last few years.” - MSNBC

He got 10 consecutive life sentences, which somehow equates to a minimum of 175 years in prison. He didn’t get the death penalty because Kansas had no death penalty at the time the murders were committed. One commentator on MSNBC said something like, "even those opposed to the death penalty agree this guy deserves it." Well, he didn’t ask me.

Still no WMD’s

I just read this article and it saddens me.

As for that woman who wants to speak to Bush about her change-of-heart and the needless death of her son in Iraq, I feel for her too. I wonder how the Bush Administration will spin this next. Maybe he’ll say the devil made him do it.

Quoted from the above-linked article:

"The most thoroughly dashed expectation was the ability to build a robust self-sustaining economy. We’re nowhere near that. State industries, electricity are all below what they were before we got there," said Wayne White, former head of the State Department’s Iraq intelligence team who is now at the Middle East Institute. "The administration says Saddam ran down the country. But most damage was from looting [after the invasion], which took down state industries, large private manufacturing, the national electric" system.

I envision "the United States" soon becoming the punch-line to an Aristocrats-type joke… if it isn’t already.
