A long week…

So Monday was my 31st birthday. Happy birthday to me. I took the day off to work on some stuff at home. Unfortunately, I spent most of the morning and a good part of the afternoon online responding to emails at work.

As for work, as there always are, there are issues. I don’t know if recently turning "older" has anything to do with it, or if my boss is being unusually critical, but I’m taking a lot of the issues personally. I’m glad today is Friday. After this paragraph, I am committed to not thinking about work until tomorrow morning.

On a positive note, I had several opportunities this week to relate my experience with the new neighbors whom I’ve affectionately named "The Darwin Family".

I doubt she’ll read this, but…

Happy Birthday, Beth.

Smoking Deterrent

I was talking to my friend Heather tonight and she mentioned something about a guy who was going to make a cigarette for those trying to quit. This special cig would leave a skunk smell/taste on the smoker, thereby deterring them.

I thought of an even better idea, influenced by this site. What about a cigarette laced with a chemical that, when introduced into the body, simulates the feeling of being kicked in the balls? I think it would work for just about anyone except, well, the guy who made the aforementioned site.

"I don’t know"

Those are lyrics from one of mine and Dina’s favorite Lou Reed songs, "Heroine".

But it adequately explains my thoughts right now. I don’t know.

Since my humble beginnings as an embryo growing into the fetus which would eventually develop into the child that would be born "me", then mature into the adult that is who I am today… I have been asking the question, "Why should I?" The answer I always come to is, "I don’t know."

On the Brink of Civil War

Yet again, CNN proves that it sees "the news" more an entertainment medium than an informative one. Yesterday’s news was all about the the 9/11 ceremonies in NYC. Today’s is all about Hurricane Ivan. Quite sensational stories.

This morning, after having neglected doing so for some time, I visited Al Jazeera and The Jerusalem Post to see what I might be missing.

It appears that the right-wing factions in Israel (those opposed to the disengagement plan and subsequent creation of a Palestinian state) are calling on Jewish settlers in the West Bank and Gaza Strip to raise arms against the IDF. Just last night, a petition was published calling for Israeli police and IDF soldiers to disobey orders and turn on their commanders rather than work to move Jewish settlers out of the occupied Palestinian territories. And if they don’t, the police and soldiers should be prepared to be met by force.

Israel is going to destroy itself.

The Big Apple

For those wondering why I haven’t posted anything new lately, I’ll tell you; today I returned from a 3-day meeting in New York City.

I spent several days before the trip preparing. Given that Monday was Labor Day, putting the dogs in the kennel was going to be difficult. Instead, I convinced my friend Amber to dog-sit for me. Of course I couldn’t let Amber see the house the way it was, so I spent considerable time getting things cleaned up so as not to completely disgust her. Regarding the ‘work aspects’, because it’s difficult to get this kind of thing done during normal working hours, I found myself staying up late every night gathering and compiling data for the meeting.
