I’m a home-owner

What amazes me most, but probably won’t amaze certain people, is that before I left for the closing, not sure how long it would take, I told everyone at work that I was leaving and not to expect me back.

The closing only took about an hour.

I went back to work.

Finally…

I got the call Friday morning. The appraisal is in and everything is taken care of regarding the house. We’re closing on Wed. I’m hoping the sellers don’t require the entire 30 days I gave them to move out so that I can get in there ASAP. I’ll likely find out today, as I’m going to the house to look and possibly buy some of the sellers’ furniture. They had some nice stuff that won’t fit in their new condo. They were nice enough to give me a chance to get anything before they take it to auction. So stay tuned.

Every bit of patience…

The first time I got a dollar amount owed to Daimler-Chrysler to pay off my ex-wife’s late payments on her repossessed car (a requirement for closing on my house) they gave me the wrong figure. Of course I didn’t know this at the time and rushed to overnight a money-order to them. They told me doing so would mean the amount would be posted the day they received it. I talked to them again on Monday, got the right dollar amount, and again rushed to overnight another money-order to them.

I sent it Tuesday morning, and, using the USPS Track/Confirm option, found that the postal service attempted to deliver it Wednesday morning. But… damn them, Chrysler didn’t go pick it up until FRIDAY MORNING! Why the HELL did they tell me to overnight it if they were going to let it sit there? Thus far I’ve spent almost $30 on postage. We’ll see how long it takes them to actually post the money-orders, but I’m guessing it’s going to be another full week.

Argh.

Serious weirdness

About 3 weeks ago, I hired my friend and former co-worker at Teletron, Michelle, to work for me at Harman-Becker. Today was the end of her 2nd week and I think she’s really glad to be onboard. I’m glad she’s here too.

Still haunting me…

Obviously I would have posted that I’d closed on the house if I had. Things are moving slowly. Apparently the work-load for appraisers is pretty heavy these days, so they didn’t get that done yet. But I think it was done today and the paperwork should be in tomorrow.

But, being impatient as I am, knowing it was due today, I emailed the mortgage lady to check the status to make sure everything was in order. Once again my ex-wife has managed to screw me.

The Fourth of July

A June 2003 Gallup Poll asked, "Overall, do you think the signers of the Declaration of Independence would be pleased or disappointed by the way the United States has turned out?". You can read the full article here, so I won’t go into all of the details, but the final tally shows that about 48% of the country thinks the Founding Fathers would be disappointed in this country.

Now I wish I had a survey that showed the number of people that believe the Founding Fathers were fundamentalist Christians. My guess, and it’s only a guess, is that we would find a strong correlation.
