Bad, bad boy

A friend of mine reprimanded me a little while ago for not having made an entry lately. So… here I am.

I’ve been pretty busy, actually. If you’re bored, visit my company site at CMG Technology. I think I almost have the look of the site how I want. Now to add some meaningful content. I also wrote a time-tracking/invoicing application that took every night the past 2 weeks to complete. I just got it to a usable state tonight, though it still needs tweaked a bit.

I’ve been really busy during the daylight hours too. The projects I’m working on for my two clients are demanding. It feels good to be challenged again.

I can’t sleep

Today was my first day as an Independent Technology Consultant. If you missed it earlier, I’ve started my own consulting company, CMG Technology and have taken on a few contract jobs. I figure while I’m single and have no one depending on me, this is the best time to try it out and see how it goes.

ISSMA Regionals

Yesterday I went to see the ISSMA Marching Band Regionals at Carmel High School.

I was a little late getting there due to work, traffic and other things outside of my control, but I made it in time to see my niece’s band perform. I even caught most of it on tape. (See the Films section.)

All the bands did an incredible job! It was a little disappointing though, because of the 19 bands, the top 5 go to the State Finals next weekend. My niece’s band was 6th (only .7 points behind #5!) Tho disappointing, that still something to be mighty proud of.

It’s been awhile…

… since I’ve made a post. I’ve finally managed to fix the database problem with the link to Comments for each blog entry. Yay!

Yesterday I went to see my niece perform at TWO marching band competitions; one in Fort Wayne and one in Plymouth. When I checked this morning, the results of these hadn’t yet been posted to the www.indianamarching.com website.

All of the bands were really good, but I apparently have been out of the scene so long that I don’t always see the same things the judges do. My niece’s band, Maconaquah High School in Bunker Hill, IN, was ranked 5th of 8 at Fort Wayne (aka, Homestead HS). That wasn’t so great, but I’ll admit they did have some heavy competition. However, later that day, at Plymouth, they placed 3rd! They beat out some REALLY good bands. I’m really proud of those guys! Their show is awesome and they sound great!

Highway exits, red onions, marching bands, chicken fajitas and do-overs.

I certainly showed the Creator something He wasn’t expecting, or perhaps He was. Either way, my move was a very, very stupid one.

Today I was to go to Kokomo to see my ex-wife’s niece perform in a marching band competition, then we were all to have dinner at Shannon’s sister’s house. Keep in mind that I am, as of yesterday, unemployed and therefore feeling a bit down and just a little over-sensitive to things.

First, I left on time. Then I had to get gas. Then, unfamiliar with the ongoing construction, I missed my northbound exit out of town and ended up going south about 5 miles before I could turn around and get going in the right direction. Then I got stuck behind a truck full of red onions, moving about 30 mph, in another construction zone where passing was prohibited.

The Creator Makes His Move

I’ve determined that the Creator doesn’t like long hair… at least not on me.

You see, when I have a job that I enjoy, I have a tendency to be more lax and adventurous with trying new things that more than likely one would not do while one is interviewing for a new job. Getting my haircut is a very good tip-off that I’m looking around.

Today, my company, Teletron, asked me to come to work early. I was then informed, as I have been 4 or 5 times over the past 15 months I’ve worked there, that a massive lay-off was coming and I needed to take the steps necessary to secure the network. The difference between this time and the others is that this would be the last time. After I secured the network, I would be following the final 40+ employees out the door, only to have that door close behind us forever. Yes, as of today I am, for the first time in my adult life, unemployed.
