Teenage Middle-class White Gangster Thugs - Part I

Jimmy opened the passenger’s side door and stepped out of his mother’s mini-van.

""Have a good day at school, son."" she said with a mother’s affection. ""Do I get a kiss?""

""Mom, come on."" he replied. ""The guys are watching.""

Jimmy made his way toward the school entrance and toward his three friends, stopping once to pull the waiste of his oversized jeans down closer to his knees.

""Whad up, homie?"" he asked of his friend, Scott.

""Yo, yo, yo, *****. I’m dope. Sup wif you?"" came the reply.

""Nuffin. Jus chillin b’fo skoo.""

""Word."" said Toby.

""Word,"" said Eric.

They exchanged what appeard to be secret handsigns.

Just then, Aaron, another classmate approached.

""Hey, guys. How’s it going?""

""Get outta’ heya, cracka!"" Jimmy scolded.

""Cracka?"" asked Aaron. ""What the hell is…

Fat people are costing us MILLIONS!

Why are smokers singled out?

I am a smoker. Occassionally, usually due to a girl I’m seeing at the time, I consider and even try quitting. However, I think the biggest detriment to my quitting is that old adage ""you have to want to quit."" I can’t recall ever really wanting to quit. I enjoy smoking.

Sure my clothes and apartment smell. Sure my breath and hair smell. Sure my teeth are stained, food tastes funny and I am short of breath after just the slightest physical assertion. However, I am a polite smoker. I respect those who fear second-hand smoke and will step outside or wait until they’re not around. It’s not a big deal. People don’t like me farting or scratching my ass around them either, and I save that for the appropriate times too.

So… as an educated person who …

High School Reunion

I received an invititation to my 10 year high school class reunion the other day. I guess they hadn’t heard that I stopped having birthdays last year, and therefore my reunion isn’t until next year. The cool part is that it will be next year forever.

Actually, knowing the impending deadline for deciding whether to go or not was coming up, I reserved about 15 minutes last night to reflect on those days back in good ol’ <a href=""http://www.shelbynews.com"" target=""_new"">Shelbyville. It turns out that 15 minutes was a little overkill What I find interesting is how cloudy the memories are. I barely remember anyone’s name or face. I vaguely recall how big a deal everything seemed at the time, but now I look back and see what little paint it left on the m…

Movies

This likely won’t be an overly-interesting entry because I’ve been through quite a bit of psychological and emotional turmoil the past few days and am feeling full of something exactly unlike creativity.

No, I’m not speaking of woman-troubles or work-troubles or anything as insignificant. I’m talking about 3 really excellent flicks I saw that have affected me profoundly.

First, Serendipity. A light-hearted romantic comedy dealing with two people destined to be toghether. Normally, it would make me puke. However, I think I’m coming down with something, because rather than puke, I wept. Perhaps it’s existential despair and alienation, and an underlying fear that I’m right that the world really is absurd, that causes me to pine for a higher meaning and yearn for fate take hold …

Destined to become classics, here are some images from Club 18-30’s new ad compaign which won the Press Grand Prix at the Palais des Festivals in Cannes. See the <a href=""http://www.adage.com/news.cms?newsId=35101"" target=""_new"">full story, or just check out the pictures.

Cig price increase

I mentioned this in the last post, but I think it deserves some attention of its own.

I agree with most everyone that it’s bad for kids to smoke. I will also agree that 2nd hand smoke is bad, and if one is going to smoke, s/he should do it politely and respect non-smokers.

With that said, the other day I paid $32 for a carton of cigarettes. That’s up from the $23 I paid a few weeks ago. Luckily, I can afford it, which leads to my prediction.

My prediction is that by raising prices, the poorer people who can’t afford to smoke anymore will cut down and many will just quit for financial reasons. For some, that’s more than $120 a month, which is a lot of money. So who’s left to smoke… the upper-middle class to wealthy people who can afford it. Cigarette smoking will become a…

Bored?

I’m sitting here listening to some techno music streamed from a site I’ve never heard of by an artist whose name I’ll never know and whose CD I’ll never buy. I also flip the channels or sometimes even get up from my chair during commercials. Hence, I am a criminal… a thief… and deserve to be punished as such.

Ok, ok. I’m bored and can’t think of anyone to pick on.

If Barbie is so popular, why do you have to buy her friends?

A rose by any other name… call it an ""action figure"" or whatever, G.I.Joe was a doll. Deal with it and move on. Think of him as a doll, but one who teaches little boys the masculine values of fighting and murdering for a cause that, well, no one really know why… but fight, plunder, rape and kill we will… ‘cuz we’re ‘mericans who play with dolls! …

More stuff fixed… finally

I’ve fixed the Photo Gallery so now, when a visitor views a picture, the number of views actually increments appropriately. Anyone want me to add the ability to vote for or rate the pics?

Oh… and long overdue, I added a picture of my bud, Darci, in the ""My Friends"" section of the Photo Gallery….

I’m so proud and stuff

Today was a typical day. Nothing really exciting to report, except for stinky, mental McDonald’s man now thinks he can disguise his odor with cheap cologne. Just take a bath, man!

My <a href=""javascript:photo_open(’show.php?photo=mods/photo_gallery/pics/katy.jpg’,'175′,’144′);"">baby sister called today. She started marching band on Monday, and she’s loving it. She called to ask my advice. It seems ol’ Mr. Smith, my former band teacher, has asked her to play tuba/sousaphone. Now is a good time to point out that in ""normal"" band, she plays flute and bassoon. I suggested she give it a shot, and I think she’s going to. She also has her heart set on being drum major eventually. I’m so proud of her.

I had dinner at Applebee’s tonight. I love Applebee’s. One time, while living in …
